Question:

Calculate the surface area in square feet of a box that measures 13 inches in length, 12 inches in width, and 11 inches in height. the value of your answer should be square feet

Answer:

A = 2 × (length × width) + 2 × (length × height) + 2 × (width × height) =

= 2 × (13 × 12) + 2 × (13 × 11) + 2 × (12 × 11) =
= 2
× 156 + 2 × 143 + 2 × 132 = 312 + 286 + 264 = 862 in²

1 ft = 12 in   ⇒ 1 ft² = 144 in²

⇒ 862 in² = (862 : 144) ft² = 5.986 ft²
